Change name of multiple files simultaneously to same name in Windows

  16. May 2010 by Soan

Ever had the need to change the name of multiple files (Even if they are different types and extentions)?

If yes, then here is how to achieve it in one go.

Select all files whose name you would like to change. Even if they are of different types, you can select them. Press Control+A to select all files or use Control + Click to select the desired files from your list.
Now press F2 key. Pressing F2 will enable the editing of the very first file name in the selection list. Or you can right click on any file and choose 'rename' option to rnable renaming on that particular file. here i have selected the third file for demostration.

Now, type in the desired name for the file and press 'Enter' key. All the files of same type will be renamed with the given name and a numerical suffix to differentiate each other.

The files with different extentions (Different type) will ne named without any numerical suffix as they can be easily differentiated by their name text itself.
