I have come across many people in my connections who get the chance to work in USA but do not have an idea about how much is enough to live a good life there. There is no doubt that the standard of living in USA is much better as compared to India. When i say standard of living, i am talking about the facilities that anybody living there gets automatically like good roads, parks, pollution free air etc. But, the cost of living is also high with respect to rent of house. Rest of the things like food and transport can almost be compared to Indian prices but the quality has huge difference.
Also, if you earn somewhere around $ 2500 after taxes, you can maintain a very good lifestyle along with driving a luxury car. This level of income will identify you as a middle class over there. So, if you compare the middle class in India with middle class in USA, there is a good difference in terms of standard of living.
I came across this average income chart on visualizing economics which helps us with the average income that an american earns. The chart shows data from year 1913 to 2006. If we think about year 2006, the data seems a bit old but certainly provides a good insight into what you should expect while accepting any job offers there.
And yes, you should also keep in mind that inflation in USA is just about 2-3% in comparison to India's 9-10%. The bank loan interest rates are also quite low (generally around 3-4%) in USA. So, you should keep these points in mind as these make substantial difference to your monthly expenditures.
