What is Australia SkillSelect EOI

An expression of interest (EOI) is an application method of showing your interest in applying for a skilled visa for immigrating to Australia.

EOI is an online application form that needs to be filled by applicant using an Australian government website commonly called as SkillSelect.
You select the visa type and submit your family, education, employment details and wait for the invitation to finally apply for visa.

SkillSelect analyzes your eligibility to meet the points test for certain visas like 189, 190 and 489.

Documents Required for Australia EOI

You need these mandatory documents to create and submit EOI for the first time:

  1. Education and Work Experience Assessment
  2. English-Language Test Report

Other PR documents like Police clearance reports can be arranged later after filing EOI.

Do I need to File 190 PR EOI Separately?

You can select all 189 and 190 PR option in same EOI. There is no need to file separate 190 EOI in state website.

Once you select 190, system gives you option to select the specific state. At this time, you can only select either one state or all. There is no option of selecting multiple states in SkillSelect.

Example:
If you are only interested in NSW (New south wales), then you can select only NSW. All other states will not even look at your EOI for invitation.
If you select all states, your profile and points will be visible to all Australia states and they can invite you.
Note that 190 visa has the condition of staying for at-least 2 years in the state after getting PR.

When will the State Pre-Invite Be Sent after Filing EOI?

States do not follow any monthly process of sending invites. State sends a pre-invite anytime they want.

States usually send invite to people with highest points in their ANZSCO code. It is also important to get the highest English language score to improve your chances for 190 visa invite.

Is Pre-Invite Same as 190 Invite?

State’s pre-invite is not same as 190 visa invite.

Once a state sends an invite, you may have to pay a nomination evaluation fees. As an example, NSW charges AUD $300 to evaluate your documents and then nominate you for 190 visa.
Ore-invite by state does not guarantee a 190 invite.

Victoria is notorious to reject high number of pre-invited applications after evaluating the candidate documents. NSW is more reliable and has high percentage of nomination approval if your documentary proof is reliable.

When Are Monthly Invites Sent By Australia Immigration?

189 invites are sent monthly at this time on 10th midnight after the automated computer draw.

190 invite is followed by the state’s approval of your nomination after the pre-invite.

Your EOI can only get 1 invite at a time.
If you have received 190 invite, your EOI is taken off the 189 visa pool and will not be considered for the next draw if you have accepted the 190 invite.

Can I Create separate EOI for each State?

You can create separate EOI for each state.

This will help if some states like Queens land prefer candidates who have only selected Queensland as their only choice in EOI.

What is the benefit of multiple EOI creation?

SkillSelect system allows you to create as many EOIs as you want.
People usually create one EOI for 189 visa and then separate ones for each state they are interested to live in.

Filing multiple EOIs allows you to have other EOI available for selection even when one of them has received an invite.

When will EOI Date of Effect Change?

EOI date of effect will change if your total points change.

Examples
#1. If you have improved your English Language score and now updated EOI to get more points.
#2. You left your current employment date empty, the EOI updates automatically to add more work experience points.
#3. If your age reaches next point slab, the EOI will update itself to reduce your points.

Is ACS assessment Required for filing EOI?

ACS assessment is required to file EOI. You will need to fill the assessment report number in your skillselect expression of interest application.

You can change the report number later but if you get an invite with wrong report number, your application might be rejected.

Is English Test Result Required for Filing EOI?

English test result report number is required for filing Australia PR EOI.

Hi, I have filed an EOI for software engineer 2613 with 80 points effective 03-May-2019. Looks like I didn’t get invited in May round. Can I expect by next month or should I explore 190 option as well.

Point break up: 20 English, rest experience and spouse points.

    Hi Anil,
I am planning to apply for both 189 and 190 visa, but I have a question for 190’s sponsorship. Do I need to apply somewhere as well for state sponsorship?

You have the option of choosing 189, 190 and 489 all on same Australia SkillSelect Expression of interest online form.

No need to file anything separately for 190 until you are invited by state.

    Hi Anil,

Can I submit multiple EOIs. One for subclass 189 and one for 190.

I have already submitted expression of interest for Subclass 189 one and half year back. I updated it with latest PTE score. This EOI will be expiring in Oct 2019. Considering the expiry of this EOI, I would like to create a new EOI for subclass 190 so that it should valid for long time. Will it affect my ranking for the first EOI. I hold 75 points for 261312. Should I go ahead and create a new EOI for subclass 190 or instead should I use the existing EOI which will be expiring

    Cheers

The system allows you to create multiple EOIs. I have seen people create EOI separately for each visa type too.

i have submitted EOI with 75 points on 25 march 2019. When can I expect an invitation for 133111. I am turning 40 by 7th may where I would loose 10 points for age. Are there chances of getting before that?

Anil Gupta 26 Mar, 19 at 11:10 am

You should be able to get an invite in April 2019 draw as per my estimate. But, make sure that you do submit your invite quickly to avoid ageing out and possibly within 2-3 days of invite.

If I get invite before 7th May, will it matter if I submit everything in 2-3 days? Don’t I have 60 days. I discussed with a few friends and they said that your points are determined from the date of getting invite.

        • Anil Gupta
Anil Gupta 26 Mar, 19 at 11:46 am

That’s right. You will get 60 days but your proof of your claim have to be valid on the date of submission of your invite too.

Note that EOI invite is sent based on your claims and verification of those claims is only done once your submit the invite with proofs and fees.

    Hi Anil,

You need the Assessment report reference number to fill EOI. You should wait for Assessment result.

    Hi Anil,

I am waiting for my ACS report. Not sure when I will get the same.
Do I need to wait for ACS report to raise EOI, If I am sure about my points from experience and educational qualification?
If the points I claim when I put EOI matches with the ACS report which I will receive later only, it should be fine right?
Or is it mandatory that you need to have have ACS done before raising EOI.

    Thanks.

You need to provide the ACS report number in your EOI. This is shown in the sample Australia EOI given above.

Victoria is notorious for long waiting times for sending nominations. You can collect the Australia PR documents for invitation in the mean time.

Thank you Anil, Is it advisable to collect PCC and medical before nomination (190)?

        • Anil Gupta
Anil Gupta 6 Mar, 19 at 9:26 am

You can apply for PCC and medical if you think you think Victoria will process your nomination quickly.
PCC and Medical are valid only for 12 months.
          Use your best judgement.

    Hi again Anil…
In Step 4, what are those Yes/No?

Your spouse and kids are still counted as your dependent family members even when you claim spouse points in your EOI.
The primary applicant is still you and your profile.

    Hi Anil G,
I was under impression that I could submit both mine and my partner’s ACS and PTE in EOI application, isn’t it true or this example is only for single applicant?

    • Anil Gupta
Anil Gupta 12 Feb, 19 at 7:13 pm

You have to submit spouse ACS and PTE only if you are claiming spouse points.

thanks for quick reply. considering that’s the case, is that submission going to be in this EOI application or somewhere else? Sorry I am unaware of the process and this may be a basic question, but I am still in the discover phase.

At this time, you will only submit the details of points in EOI. No document needs to be uploaded.
Once you get an invite, you will need to create an account on separate website called immiaccount.

There, you will upload all proofs to support your EOI claims.
