Can PR initial entry date be extended?

Australia PR initial entry date can be extended.

How to request the IED date extension?

You should email your extension of the initial entry date request to Skilled Support email address: skilled.support@homeaffairs.gov.au

What are the chances of entry date extension request approval?

The chances of date approval depend on your supporting documents.

The Australian migration officer may reject your extension request if they are not satisfied with your request.

Do all applicants have to enter before IED?

Everyone gets their own initial entry date after PR approval and hence each one has to enter Australia to activate the PR.

All applicants in the family have to comply with their Initial entry date requirement individually.

Is Australia Visa canceled if IED extension request is made?

The Australia PR visa is not canceled if you request entry date extension.

What is IED extension processing time?

Australian department of home affairs responds to your extension request within 2-7 days.

IED extended as wife expecting, Child born – Does Child need PR visa too?

A newborn child needs Australia PR to travel with you.

You should apply for an Australian visa or the same dependent 189 or 190 PR if you have already got one for yourself.

The first entry date is mentioned as ‘On first Entry, Arrive by’.

The chances of approval of the Initial entry date (IED) vary with your situation. You should request the advancement of the entry date only if you have a legitimate reason.

Examples of valid reasons for extending PR entry date:

#1 Pregnant Wife

Many families have a situation where they cannot travel as the lady in the house is expecting to deliver.

If you are planning to request an extension, you should send the doctor’s travel recommendation on official letterhead.

#2 Kid Study Completion – Exams

You can wait till your kid completes a particular standard or year in your home country.

To make your case stronger, it is better to send the official letter from the school principal in your email to Australia immigration.

#3 Medical Condition

Make sure that you have declared your medical condition while applying for your Australia PR.

If this is a new condition, then you can request your date change with the doctor’s letter.

#4 Coronavirus Travel Bans

You should be easily able to get an extension with Coronavirus travel bans in place.

Most people are getting an automated reply email from Australian immigration which says that you can enter before the end of your Australian PR’s 5-year term anytime.

We believe that this is an exception and Australian immigration officers at the airport will understand your situation and should allow you to enter Australia even after your IED date has passed.

I do not think there are any supporting documents required unless specifically requested by the immigration officer.

DIBP IED Extension Policy

DIBP is usually pretty strict with the Initial Entry Date (IED) and clearly, mentions that **cannot be changed or extended** once the visa is granted.

The visa holder must enter Australia before the date specified.

Your visa can be canceled if you do not enter by the initial entry date unless exceptional and compelling reasons have prevented them from traveling.

IED extension facilitation letter

Australian immigration department sends an official letter which shows a new extended entry date. This letter is called the ‘IED facilitation letter’.

You will be asked to show this letter at immigration check after landing at Australian airport.

The IED letter has this content and is sent by email.
